Coyee Shipp Langston
“The eye of the Artist sees differently. It breaks through the surface and sees into the inner nature of things. The freedom to experiment eliminates my inhibitions and therefore welcomes creativity! My abstracts have become windows where my imagination can express its self. They evolve slowly, as painter and canvas gets lost together in a creative place that allows time to stand still. This is where I collect colors, textures and objects to express feelings and memories. What I love about abstracts is how each viewer sees something different, something that has meaning to them. As an artist, that’s very rewarding!”
Coyee’s love for the arts began at an early age when she would use her mother’s oil paints. She received an art scholarship to Cumberland College in Lebanon, Tn., majoring in fine arts in 1979. Coyee studied commercial and fine art at Chattanooga State Community College.
Abstracts, landscapes and portraits are all a part of her studio and gallery. She is a member of the In-Town Gallery & Association of Visual Arts. She taught art at East Ridge Elementary on a grant from Allied Arts. She is on the board for the Public Art Committee in Chattanooga. Coyee was the chair for the ArtsReach program, a partnership with Allied Arts and Friends of East Brainerd. She is a past member of Civic Arts League & TN Watercolor and has exhibited in over 40 art exhibits. Coyee and her husband own Art House Gallery & Langston Photography.
