Wearable Art

I’ve been playing with fiber since learning to sew and knit in grade school.

I am professionally trained as a musician but have always had a fiber project going, custom sewing the majority of my wardrobe.  Even a pair of purple suede shoes in high school!

I attended a dyeing workshop with Jane Dunnewold in San Antonio 20 years ago and was immediately hooked on all types of surface embellishment.  Additional classes have been at John C. Campbell Folk School, Arrowmont, and Shakerag. I have also studied pattern draping and design and couture sewing in Baltimore with Susan Khalje for many years.  These two interests have combined into a passionate love of wearable art.

Starting with a white piece of fabric, adding layers of dyes and paints is endlessly surprising and entertaining.  I now dye fabrics in a roomy old airplane hangar in and sew them in my home studio in Cleveland, TN.  It’s the best of all worlds!
