Leslie J. Dulin
Painting & Mixed Media
“Making art, for me, is not the result of intellectual deliberation but it is a way of knowledge of myself and my world. I intuitively use strong luminous color, many times in complementary schemes, and incorporate sweeping movements as well as stamped words, patterns and symbols.
Thinking in color is essential to the way I work. Color invokes feeling and meaning, and although my work is rarely subtle, it can convey subtle emotions. Even in paintings with subject matter, I assign color based on my own awareness of the subject rather than using local color exclusively. It is this emotional content, as conveyed by color, that speaks to the viewer.”
Leslie, a native of Signal Mountain, TN, has a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Georgia. She is a Signature Member of the Tennessee Watercolor Society. Gerald Brommer, Sandra Paynter Washburn, and Anne Bagby are among her most influential teachers. Leslie’s paintings are included in the collections of Girls’ Preparatory School and Ambassador Ronald L. Schlicher, among others.
