GAY ARTHUR Gay enjoys capturing architectural structures and elements, freezing them in time and space. Title: Wheland Foundry17 ..oil...36x36 I have been
fascinated with architecture my whole life. This interest did not reveal itself as an
artistic expression until I became a student of fine arts at UTC in 1999. I love the sense of place that
structures hold for the viewer. In turn, my own sense of place in time has
been revealed as an important life issue for me. Recurrent elements
in my work include the intersection of geometric shapes, converging lines, and the
interplay of the cast shadow and penetration of light.
As a sculptor as well as a painter I love the sculptural nature oil paint
and use varied methods of layering the paint from palate knife to glazing. Like the
construction of a building, process is as important to me as the finished product. |
