Ellen is a self-taught artist from Chattanooga who paints mostly landscapes of the rural areas surrounding her Lookout Mountain home. She enjoys the entire process of each painting, which usually begins with a landscape composition from her camera. Whether it be mountains and farmland or the rugged coast of Maine, Ellen strives to express in her paintings what it is that attracted her eye to the scene.

Graduating with a B.A. in Biology from UTC, and then a B.S. in Nursing at the U.T. Center for the Health Sciences in Memphis, Ellen did not discover her love of painting  until her children were in school. She had always been a “crafter”, but it was when she took a watercolor class from Chattanooga artist, Jim Wright, that her love for art began to bloom. From then on she hasn’t looked back, exploring every medium from pastel to encaustic. She comes from a family of artists. Her grandmother painted, and her mother is an oil painter. Her brother is a stone sculptor in Virginia
