WATERCOLORS/Mostly landscapes in a loose, suggestive style so as to involve viewers via their own background and experience.

Introduced to watercolor painting in his native Ireland by a caring high-school teacher, John dabbled with it for the next forty years or so while pursuing a career in consulting engineering.  After retiring, painting took over, and he now strives to paint watercolors that will involve the viewer.   His objective is to convey the message with as few brush strokes as possible, saying more with less and inviting the viewer to fill in the gaps from the wealth of their own experiences.

With a lifelong participation in coastwise sailing and ocean passage-making he gravitates towards water, boats, and the coastal scene.  John is, for the most part, self-taught using the many how-to watercolor books available today.  In addition he has taken workshops with Robert Wade, Chuck McLachlan, Tony Couch, Eric Wiegardt, and Judi Wagner.  He is a member of both the Tennessee and the Georgia Watercolor Societies
