Lori Ryan
In 1980, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Emmanuel College
in Boston. I spent the next 20+ years working as a graphic designer and raising two sons.
Once they ventured out on their own, I was able to focus my attention on my first love --
painting. And I fell in love all over again.
My paintings are about light and color. They are tiny moments when the ordinary becomes
extraordinary. The way the light hits a flower petal or the color of a vivid blue sky. I
record these moments because they are fleeting and usually go unnoticed. I paint on a
large scale to bring attention to the beauty and complexity of small, everyday things.
Being a painter has taught me to truly see, to take the time to observe and appreciate the
natural world.
